New World Art
For those who don't
know, "The New World" is a story (fantasy with some sci-fi) that
I've been working on for the last four years. However, its backgrounds
stretch much further than that--many ideas for it that would later become
a part of it were in my imagination since the 4th grade, and some from
even earlier. Considering how long I've been working on it, its no
surprise that there is a HUGE amount of background material, character
development, and plot (over 200 MB) involved.
This page has some of
the visual artwork that is directly related to the New World story,
its characters, and its concepts.

Character Sketch - Teralia Kiaski 14 - Model 9
This is one of the best of
the pencil Teralia sketches I've made. I made this picture for me to
refer to while writing a section of the New World story (then called
the Dragon Project) where protagonist Alexander gets blown into this other world
(long story). This version has been modified
however--in the original
pic, Teralia was purple, which at
the time, I thought gave her a majestic look. The pic took around two
days to complete (Ah... how we miss junior high). Changes since this rendering have been noted
below. |

Character and Location - Phoenix Complex
This is the
first large picture I ever made using Adobe Photoshop (5.0 if
you must know). I had
intended to do it with colored pencil like my previous drawings,
but I wanted to test this program and looking at the results, I have
to say that it was a complete success, and I've used Photoshop ever
since. One problem was that Teralia looked too much like Insomniac's
Spyro (for the PSX). I wasn't too happy about that. Since then, the
creation of this pic, the character has changed radically and (1) no
longer has puny wings, (2) is no longer purple, and (3), looks
completely different.

Character and Concept - Wing Pack Model I
Here's a
picture that I never quite got to finish. Based on the Wing Unit
Model 1, I created it so that I could visualize what it would look
like. In this picture the character Alexander Skyrien is standing on
the ledge of the Phoenix Complex. I don't know why I never finished
this. Oh well. There's a few more that I never finished. If anyone
wants the PSD file, just ask.

NCF Attack
on Home Bay Palace Original Pencil Drawing
This was my second drawing
that I created with the help of Photoshop.

NCF ATTACK ON HOME BAY PALACE
NCF Attack
on Home Bay Palace Full Color Drawing It was only my third
Photoshop drawing. Well, I learned, and it was worth my whole two
weeks I spent on it. I really like the detail, the people running
around, the reflections etc.. The hardest part of the texture of the
mountains and the grass. And the individual lights on each
explosion...that was hard. One thing I don't like is the
"blueness" of the palace. It's too blue. Oh yes: It looks
too cartoony.

Test Drawing - A Stormy Night Sky
This was the
first picture I made not based off a pencil drawing.
With the help of Photoshop, I was able to make a much better picture
than I had expected. This is a picture of NCF fighters flying to
Home Bay to attack.

Character Sketch - Teralia 15 - Model 11
Now, this
was a new model of Teralia I drew in the Animation class at College
of DuPage during the summer. I wanted to make her look more
realistic and less fantasy. This is much better than the last one.
The wings especially turned out well. This took about four days of
work.

02.21.2001 - The Endless
Charge, Pencil original
This picture
was based on a sudden idea I had for the New World story. This is my
first "real" visual project of mine since the "NCF
attack". Things are going well so far...

02.25.2001 - The Endless
Charge, Final
This is by
far the most "color correct" drawing I ever made and I'm
especially happy with how this picture turned out and I really feel
that I've learned a lot since I first made the "Flying"
picture. This is also the most dramatic premise, having the NCF
naval fleet devastated by a single NCI airship.

Conceptual Drawings of 3 Ship Classes
I'm not exactly sure when I
drew these, but they seemed interesting. Of course, these are old
versions, but their essence remained. Look below
at the 3dsmax version of the carrier. |

Updated Political Map of the New World
In creating a map of the
Neo-Choson Imperium, for the geography, I used a topographical map
of Asia. This is a fairly old map. but it incorporates much of the
current geo-political structure of the New World. The various color
patches in the NCI are the 8 administrative regions. |

The Green Rapture
One of the first animals
I've created, the final product for the rapture emerged from
various places. The idea originated from an idea of a pet dragon,
from my dragon infatuation days of 7th - 8th grade. The morphology
of the rapture originated from an artistic rendering of an archaeopteryx,
a reptilian bird from the late Jurassic period. Also influencing the
final product was the greasel,
from the amazing game Deus Ex. More
info on the rapture. |

3dsmax Version of the Pacific Class Carrier
So here. Finally a 3D model
of a New World unit, the Pacific Class Carrier. You'll notice that
there aren't any textures or lighting modifiers on the carrier, but
this was a preliminary model. A test if you will. And I think it
turned out just fine. |

NCI Land Dominating Fighter
After watching a special on
the future of land combat on the Discovery Channel, I decided that
land combat in the New World should be more advanced. And thus
emerged the Land Dominating Fighter model 1, a body suit with the
most high-tech integrated battle equipment, capable of sustaining a
soldier on the battlefield for an extended period of time. The
inspiration for the design and equipment for the suit came from
various sources, including the marines from Deus Ex, the Predator
(from Predator), and Capt. J.T. Marsh (from Exosquad). Cool no? |
