In Purgatory's Shadow
I have not escaped unscathed from the
darkness of the Desolation. The demons may be gone, but I have seen the
essence of their evil. I see it in our own eyes, our own neighbors; the ever darkening minds where the true evil resides. We try to conceal the
darkness with our light, to hide it with good intentions, but there is no escape, for the evil still lies waiting to lash out.
Our candle grows dark... Darkness grows, their influence become stronger with each passing anger. Each hostility, each fear feeds them,
allowing them to continue their advances while we are forced to hide
deeper within ourselves, shielding ourselves with our own souls. Then, when we are mere specters and shadows of despair,
they will move on, leaving behind a broken soul, dying, but never quite reaching even that tranquility.
Darkness can never be defeated--it is forever. But our light is
not--in the end our candle will die. We are all damned.
- Eroth' Prologue; The Tome of Doom, Chapter 1:1-13 |
The world that we have experienced is minuscule
compared to the world that lies beyond our will and/or ability to perceive.
What we do experience is what is presented to us by a derisive world,
and that becomes our perception of reality, altered and twisted, but
still it is what we've grown to believe. But now that we have developed
enough to think for ourselves, isn't it time for us to form our own
perceptions of reality? Get
me back into the euphemism of the world that I call real!
