The assembly, held Tuesday from 7 - 8 PM began with a speech by
NNHS school principal Ross Truemper and then immediately followed by
a speech from veteran science teacher Lee Marek, who is retiring
after this year (Mr. Marek is a previous Golden Apple winner and is
annually on the David Lettermen Show). Soon after close to 50
students were awarded honors for seven consecutive 4.0 semesters,
not an easy feat. This feat is impossible for the Great Alexander
Joo since he did not achieve a 4.0 first semester of freshmen year.
Immediately following, the people separated into classes, and
individual honors were distributed. Alexander Joo received his first
second award; a certificate and a pin. Among others called were site
advisor Rohit Godbole, and staff wannabe (fat) David Huang. Both men
received honors for scholastic merit.
Husky Gathering Site CSM Anubhav Kapoor was also called, but
after repeated callings, he did not appear. As the students and
their family members waited uneasily, rumors began to spread that
Anubhav had choked on a vegetable steak and was being sent to by
helicopter to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. As this rumor spread,
sounds of weeping began to emanate from the IRC. When the news reached the podium,
assistant principal Dr. Pasteris agreed to a full minute of silence
in hopes that he may be well. Though this rumor has not been
confirmed, his absence at the ceremony was well noted by all.
