Lucipherious Gone?!
Without any warning, Tripod has removed
Lucipherious in its entirely Saturday.
Written by: Skyrien |
Oct 6 - The unthinkable that site masters
have been fearing has finally, and inexplicably (well, almost)
happened today. Lucipherious (http://lucipherious.tripod.com), a site run by one of
the 4AM
Publishing's staff (from enriched print), had one of the most content rich (albeit
disturbed and twisted at times) "by students for students"
websites of NNHS, and now, it is gone.
Tripod (a branch of Lycos) had hosted Lucipherious
for over a year and during that time, the site's content had grown
immensely. The many sections of the site, including the artwork and
randominty pronounce the sometimes strange fashion of humor that
Lucipherious holds. The rantings section provides an extensive peek
into the life and views of Luci, including the ever-entertaining
Lucipherious's Diary--an IMMENSE logbook (seriously close to 1000
pages) of the daily perils and joys of the creator of the site.
Though highly questionable, the site seemed to be planned to
continue for the foreseeable future. The recent delivery of Angelex's Sword (a batch of
"weapons" for the web battlefield) into Luci's hands was
intended to
further the site significantly. But the blow came from a source much
higher than either Lucipherious or Angelex's Sword could handle.
Lycos seems to do systematic sweeps of its
servers, and they apparently came to Lucipherious. The exact cause
of the shutdown is not known, but it is suspected that the general
look and content of the site may have triggered a closer
investigation, upon which some more questionable articles may have
been revealed (such as the "C is for..." animation, and the new and
highly disturbing Bill Cosby dialogue). The site, as it said it
would, gave viewers a glimpse into the "darkest depths of the human mind". But it
wasn't well accepted by the majority of people. Lucipherious himself
had complained that no one appreciates his style of humor--which
usually includes sexual innuendos at every possible corner. Though
some of the stuff is funny, much of the content would probably not
appeal to the general public. Lycos has apparently gone the populist
route and chosen to remove Lucipherious because of that reason. It's
"Terms and Conditions" file contains this paragraph:
| "Lycos
further reserves the right to terminate any user's access to
the Lycos Network or to any of the Products and Services for
any reason or for no reason at all, in Lycos' sole
discretion, without prior notice, or any notice" |
I've just read their terms article and
found MANY restrictions on the things you can do with the service
including "Conduct your own contests and promotions".
After some scrutiny of the article, the conclusion is that
Lucipherious had violated Clause a of Article 6, which states
as prohibited the:
| "Upload,
post, email, otherwise transmit, or post links to any
Content, or select any member or user name or email address,
that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing,
tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, pornographic,
libelous, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, hateful,
or racially, sexually, ethnically or otherwise
objectionable." |
Understandable, but still regrettable, the loss of
Lucipherious will be significant. Angelex will lament the fall of
one of the last veteran generals standing on the web battlefield.
The question now is, "when will Lucipherious be back?"
Hopefully more news will become availible. Angelex supports the restoration
of Lucipherious and looks forward to seeing it up and animate once
more!
In the meantime, the Joke
Called Frootiness
chugs along at its usual retarded pace...
