Today is 'Empty Day'!

Jan 30 - Happy Birthday to Linda! Seventeen years old--time for some R-rated action!

But otherwise, there is nothing worth reading today! Absolutely nothing! So, MOVE ON DOWN!

Talks Fail With Bellisario

Jan 17 - Yes, the talks with this obtuse teacher failed, and it looks like there's nothing we can do about it. There's always Mrs. Quinn, but I have doubts as to the possibilities of progress.

So yea... school sucks...

The WRATH of Mozilla

Nov 28 - EASTER EGG - Type in "about:mozilla" in the address bar of Netscape, to see a prophesy about the future of Mammon (Microsoft). Different in each version of Netscape.

Type it in IE to see what Microsoft thinks of Mozilla. (hint: Remember the Blue Screen of Death? -- critical error...)

Movie Capsulized: Half Past Dead

Nov 19 - Half Past Dead... that's all there is. This movie goes completely out of its point to provide us with lots of boom without any satisfaction. Everything was overdressed and overdone, from the usage of music video style camera zooming, to the usage of foreignlanguages to look cool, to the farfetched Matrix- style martial arts and bullet-dodging. Considering the title, you'd expect some more about death, but nope, its just unfeasible boom boom boom and then it quits on ya. This movie doesn't satisfy. but damn, is it funny. Just hearing Seagal saying, "my brother...we are all right" and seeing him strutting around like a dumbass (oh I'm sorry... was he wasn't supposed to look like a dumbass?) makes up for the movie's total lack of meaning. The movie totally skips building the characters and makes a hilarious attempt to make up for it by tossing in a few slow music stimulated, totally contrived emotion scenes. Bad execution, and unforgivably suck-ass script. Contrived emotions, bad one liners, bad direction, bad acting, unlikely fights...  still, props for for the unintentional amusement and the hot azn-ish (still not sure) girl with the blue makeup. This "movie" earns a solid 2/4.

Hilarious stuff:

bulletWatching Seagal fight
bulletSeagal try to walk swinging his shoulders back and forth -- truly hilarious without parallel
bullet"Seagal looks as if he's playing pattycake rather than fighting hand-to-hand."

From various reviews:

"The most ridiculous thing occurs in an early scene, when we are asked to believe that Seagal is a good enough actor to fool a polygraph"

"There are countless scenes where characters face off approximately six feet from each other and begin firing weapons… but no one ever gets hit."

"A man with three first names - Don Michael Paul - directs this wildly improbable plot with no discernible skill beyond keeping the frames in order and the decibel level sky-high.
...there is a certain amusement watching the once-agile Seagal, 51, act like he's young and gorgeous. Outside of that, "Half Past Dead" resembles its title; only the beatings and mounting body count keep one awake"

"Paul has a habit of framing his actors from forehead to chin (or chins, in Seagal's case)."

"Worse than the stunts is the laughable dialogue, overloaded with macho taunts and cumbersome, phony crime-world jargon. The movie hits a comical lowpoint as ringleader Chestnut psychoanalyzes the high court justice's choice to put career ahead of marriage and family ("You forgot about love, didn't you? Your biological clock ticking, and your field went fallow."). Half-past rotten stuff, this."

Against the never-ending war...
Nov 10
- National groups opposing the occupation of Palestine and the War on Terrorism.

Not In My Name is a Jewish peace group that was formed in November 2000 to work for a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Not In Our Name is the new anti-war group

The Pledge of Resistance

We believe that as people living
in the United States it is our
responsibility to resist the injustices
done by our government,
in our names

Not in our name
will you wage endless war
there can be no more deaths
no more transfusions
of blood for oil

Not in our name
will you invade countries
bomb civilians, kill more children
letting history take its course
over the graves of the nameless

Not in our name
will you erode the very freedoms
you have claimed to fight for

Not by our hands
will we supply weapons and funding
for the annihilation of families
on foreign soil

Not by our mouths
will we let fear silence us

Not by our hearts
will we allow whole peoples
or countries to be deemed evil

Not by our will
and Not in our name

We pledge resistance

We pledge alliance with those
who have come under attack
for voicing opposition to the war
or for their religion or ethnicity

We pledge to make common cause
with the people of the world
to bring about justice,
freedom and peace

Another world is possible
and we pledge to make it real.

The City Builder at 4!
SimCity™ 4 to be released early next year!

Oct 16 - After over three years since the release of Simcity 3000, the third in the franchise that originally brought Maxis to fame, the company (now under the mammoth Electronic Arts) is now preparing to release the forth edition to the game, (hence, the name) SimCity 4 to eager fans of the series (like myself). Slated for a January 2003 release, it will definitely be on the top of my post-Christmas list. One of the coolest things about Simcity 4 is the ability to import families from The Sims into the game. The Sims Maxis's other flagship game currently holds the title as the best selling computer game, ever, and even now, after nearly two years, The Sims still tops the charts. Check out the Simcity website here, where you can find plenty of cool articles about the game!

To further support utter zeal of Maxis games, I've made a list of cool ideas for future Sim games (as if anyone that matters is gonna notice... but you never know...)

bulletSimnation - Here, instead of a city, you control a nation! You can be an elected president, or a cruel dictator... think of the possibilities! Taxes, public dissent, international threats, terrorism...
bulletSimschool - Here you create and maintain a school of crazed a high school bunch. Drugs, violence, and teachers on strike! Save us Truemper!

Oct 14 - Here's a little bit of zero-tolerance for ya -- and then some stupidity:
From: THIS is TRUE for 6 October 2002 Copyright 2002 www.thisistrue.com

JUST SAY NO: An eighth-grader at Morton Middle School in Omaha, Neb.,   says a fellow student handed him some marijuana in class to "pass on" to another student. Joshua Erdkamp, 13, took it over to the trash and dumped it, keeping a tiny sample as proof. After class, he went to his counselor and reported the incident, preferring to turn the evidence over to someone he "trusts", his mother said. Principal Ivory Woods says he should have told a teacher immediately. "We want our school to be safe," she said as she suspended the boy for five days for his delay. (Omaha World-Herald)
...And now that the one kid brave enough to report drugs has been suspended, the school is safer, right?

MEATBALL MARAUDERS: Two robbers at a pizza parlor in Boston, Mass., took five employees hostage, but allowed one to leave if he promised not to call the police. He broke that promise: as Johnathan Ortega, 23, and Miguel Angel Correa, 27, waited for the time-delay lock on the safe, officers surrounded the building. When the robbers realized they were trapped, they tried to convince their hostages to tell police they were customers and that the robbers had left. "They were telling us, 'Oh, please, help us! Tie us up!'," says the manager. "One of them said, 'I've got kids, I don't want to go to jail!' They made believe they were hostages, too." The robbers hid their guns and the employees tied them up -- and then let the cops in to arrest them. (Boston Herald)
...Ortega and Correa are the sort of people that would have to be reincarnated twice to get all the way up to "dumb".

A New Section at Angelex!

Sept 21 - Angelex commemorates the opening of our new Links Section! Check it out! You can access it through the left panel. Currently there are only four links, but that shall grow as I continue to come across great sites.

I will be adding links to personal sites too, so if you want your site up there, sent it in below in the SPEAK OUT section.

Sept 19 - This is a chart of my body temp--on Monday, the doc said I should keep a record, but I only got around to it today. And while I was at it, I made it into a nice little line graph. As you can tell, I can take the Motrin and the Tylenol but it goes right back up in an hour or two. But I'm getting better though. The numbers here are overall, a significant 2 degrees lower than on Sunday--the day that my fever actually took me to 105 (hallucinations are possible at that point). Well... hopefully, I'll be better by Friday.

What is "Democracy" to you?
Johnny Carson describes his hilarious view of democracy in this 1991 monologue.

Democracy is buying a big house you can't afford, with money you don't have, to impress people you wish were dead.  And, unlike communism, democracy does not mean having just one ineffective political party; it means having two ineffective political parties.  Democracy is welcoming people from other lands, and giving them something to hold onto -- usually a mop or a leaf blower.  It means that with proper timing and scrupulous bookkeeping, anyone can die owing the government a huge amount of money.  Democracy means free television, not good television, but free.  And finally, democracy is the eagle on the back of a dollar bill, with 13 arrows in one claw, 13 leaves on a branch, 13 tail feathers, and 13 stars over its head -- this signifies that when the white man came to this country, it was bad luck for the Indians, bad luck for the trees, bad luck for the wildlife, and lights out for the American eagle.

 - Johnny Carson, 1991 monologue

Forum language censors / ads removed

August 14 - After some more consideration, I've decided that the language censor would be removed (I believe in free expression). Also, the popup ads have been removed as of last Friday (down with popup ads and the Microsoft SPAM!)

Click "The Forum" button on the left to access the Main Angelex Forum!

Operation Vegetableness

August 8 - As of today, Operation Vegetableness has offically begun. The campaign against cynicism and all who intend to mock and deface the hard work of others. Seriously, the world has become too cynical and full of irony, and this age must be stopped! Our first target in this campaign is Frootiness.

Enemy Neutralized

August 6 - OPERATION: VEGETABLENESS - Angelex has largely resolved the previous issue with the source, and it shall no longer cause trouble, or so we think... we do know the devious masterminds of the site are already planning further attacks. To them, "I don't gotta say a word, I just flip 'em the bird, and keep walking, I don't take shit from no one."
Quoted from Eminem - "Criminal"

August 6 - It looks like we have some news for today after all! The Angelex forum, which has been down since May has sprung back to life, in a newly enhanced form! This time one can not only add new messages (its called New Topic), but you can also initiate your own polls (click to view the test poll, "where to get raped")! Viewing is available to everyone, but to post you must register. Please take the time to register! -- it'll take around 2 minutes of your time! This enhanced system is brought to you by ezboard.com! Have fun, and let's not have the same problems as the last forum. No more impersonating, or fake rapes please.

07.03.02 - Awaiting Verification...

Rather than risk another referral (and possible lawsuit) I've decided to request written permission from all teachers that will be included in my 2001 - 2002 School Year Review. Yes, the project is still underway, and I expect it to be completed by July 13.

No news today!

August 6 - The obvious problem with locking myself at home for two days is that much of the outside world slips by paying little attention to little old me. I still have APUS homework to do, and dammit, I still haven't finished my essays! Oh well. School starts in 22 days. Damn... I could use another month or two...

06.03.02 - Permission received!
Enriched Written teacher Ms. Hitzeman and Mr. Schmitt of Enriched Chemistry from Naperville North High School have given verbal permission to allow the use of their names and one selected picture on this site. This is for the School Year Review section to be produced some time next week.

We are presently awaiting [to ask] permission from the following teachers:

Mr. Pour
Mr. Racy
Mr. Hopkins
Mr. Croxall
Mr. Ley
Mr. Marek
Mr. Harris
Dr. Pasteris
Ms. Vlagos
Mrs. Mercier
Mr. Fiore
Mr. Vargos
Mr. Truemper
Mr. Petersen

If any of the listed persons wish to be removed, please e-mail to skyiren@hotmail.com
