General Rating Scale:
People have asked about my rating scale -- how
does it work? What are the criteria?
Simply put, in this system, the rating
that I give is just how I feel about the object in question. So stop
pestering me about it (especially you Jason...)! This rating system
is NOT scientifically correct; it's just a number given by my opinions. I
think it does however provide the most accurate information about my
opinions as a whole -- how can you say that an opinion is scientifically
correct anyway?
When I rate something, I do consider
all the things that any reviewer would consider (if its a movie, I'd
consider acting, plot, graphics, music, sound,...etc), but its the feeling
that I'm left with that determines the final score. If you want more
details about the numbers, then look below. The rating scale below is for
movies, but it can easily be modified to work with anything else.
|
+4/4 Globes – The highest
possible rating. A movie with this rating should consider be
considered the best of the best. Creates an original which all
movies thereafter can look up to as a godfather, or it can perfect a
given movie model. One of the few movies that are crafted every so
many years that define what every perfect movie should strive for.
Counts as a 5 globe on the scale.
|
|
4/4 – One of those movies that just
is a winner. Movie is done with thought and truth, and the key
elements are in good harmony with each other. Poignant story or
emotional truth. A movie to go in time. One of the best movies
crafted.
|
|
3.5/4 – Excellent! Near perfection
and highly recommended! May be just below the level of godlike
creation, and among the best movies ever.
|
|
3/4 – Good movie! Worth watching.
Lacks (a) trait(s) that would have made it excellent. Just a little
more work and it would have been much better! Among the better
movies ever.
|
|
2.5/4 – Acceptable movie, but
missing some real work, or just lacking in true quality.
|
|
2/4 – Mediocre movie. Watchable,
but that’s about it. It just doesn’t have what it takes to rank
as a respectable movie. The plot, characters, idea… something,
just doesn’t work right together. Has at least 1 critical flaw
that’ll keep it from ever being a “good” movie.
|
|
1.5/4 – Inferior movie. Some
things disqualify it from being a “true” movie. Not having a
plot may be one. Copycat could be another.
|
|
1/4 – Bad movie. Ruins
expectations, then goes way further. The producers didn’t
know when to give up and start over. Maybe you’ll want to see it
as an example of a bad movie.
|
|
0.5/4 – Abysmal movie. Does not
have the qualities of a movie, but still pretends to be one. No way
can this movie ever be good. May have destroyed a potentially good
plot idea. Ugly and unwatchable are two words that describe a movie
of this rating.
|
|
0/4 – Zero. Just wrong. Absolute
jabrony; pathetic. I mean, très
mal to the rock bottom. One of those movies best forgotten,
or better yet, never seen at all. The exceptionally rare, really
bad “movies” that makes you wonder “Why? Why did they make
this crap?” A sin, simply a wrongdoing of humanity’s creation.
It’s hard to get this bad, even if you wanted to. Best not to
watch anything rated at this level, I know I (would) have regretted
it. There hasn’t been a single movie by this rating as of yet
(thank the Lord!).

Supplemental Ratings:
|
[+] – A final rating before the
numerical rating. Indicates a masterpiece of creation, and that your
cinema life is not complete without seeing this movie.
|
|
[*] – Star. A supplementary rating for
movies that deserve watching, no matter their rating.
|
|
(!) – Exclamation. Indicates Seal of
Excellence. Another supplementary rating that indicates a
masterpiece of creation. Must have a 4/4 and have qualities that
place it far beyond the rest.
|
|
[X] – Something just not right about
the movie…
|
|
Bold – Further grays the line that
divides the good movies and the great movies. Think of it as another
rating. Meant for the really good movies.
